Frequently Asked Questions
Q.How do I know if my child is ready for the program?
A.Your child should be ready for the program if he is at least 3 years old, has the attention span to sit through a 15- to 20-minute lesson, and is starting to recognize letters.
Q.What happens in a typical lesson?
A.We suggest that you begin each lesson with a short warm-up to practice previously learned skills. Then continue where you left off in the workbook and on the CD-ROM to learn a new skill, practise that skill with a workbook activitiy, and then wrap up the lesson by playing a fun game with the letter blocks, letter cards, and picture cards.
Q.How long is a typical lesson?
A.We recommend that a typical lesson last between 15 and 20 minutes. This is generally enough time for your child to warm up by practicing skills that have been introduced in previous activities, to learn and practise a new skill, and to end the lesson by playing a fun game. However, it's important to tailor lessons to your child’s attention span. Lessons can be any length of time, no matter how short.
Q.Will it be fun for my child?
A.Capturing a child's attention is half the battle! That's why we’ve included games, activities, and a CD-ROM filled with fun alphabet songs. We’ve also included an exclusive My Hooked on Phonics Dictionary featuring over 300 definitions and chalkboard pages for extra learning fun. But the real fun comes with the learning. Kids inherently want to be successful, and our goal is to help them excel.
